My stay at Fernloft in Chinatown was a mixed experience. The location was fantastic, right in the heart of Chinatown, making it easy to explore local attractions and delicious street food. However, while I found the common areas clean and cozy, the atmosphere was marred by my interactions with the owner, which weren't as welcoming as I'd hoped.

Rooms
7.0
I stayed in a 16-person mixed dorm that was acceptable for a backpacker. The beds were decent, and the room felt snug yet functional.
Service
5.0
While I appreciated an early check-out and the hosts' friendliness, my initial encounter with Auntie Ainee left much to be desired. She was forthcoming with rules but lacked warmth in her approach.
Location
9.0
The location is the highlight—close to the Chinatown MRT and surrounded by vibrant markets and temples. I loved being able to walk to so many attractions within a day.
Dining
6.0
The self-service breakfast was basic, but I enjoyed the nearby Maxwell food center for a taste of local cuisine. Auntie Ainee also offered home-cooked meals, which I found to be a nice touch.
Facilities
7.0
The common facilities were decent, including clean shared showers and a PC for guest use. It was all I needed as a backpacker after a day of exploring.

7.4/10

My stay at Fernloft was overall positive, with a great location in Chinatown and a welcoming hostess, Auntie Aini. However, the hostel's limited facilities and some miscommunication regarding check-in left room for improvement. If you're seeking a quiet place and aren't overly concerned about amenities, this could be a good fit.

Rooms
7.0
I stayed in a 4-bed female dorm that had comfortable beds and decent-sized lockers. Each bed came with a personal light and power outlet, which I found very convenient. However, I did notice that the beds were a little squeaky.
Service
6.0
Auntie Aini was a character who seemed to genuinely care for her guests, although her approach could feel a bit strict at times. There were moments of miscommunication that led to frustration regarding check-in timings.
Location
9.0
The location is fantastic, just a short walk from Chinatown and several dining spots. I enjoyed the view from the balcony overlooking the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and found it easy to get around using the nearby subway.
Dining
8.0
While breakfast wasn't provided, there were many food options within walking distance, including the famous Tian Tian Chicken Rice right across the street. I also loved exploring the local hawker centers.
Facilities
6.0
The facilities were basic but functional, with one shower and one toilet for the small hostel. The air conditioning worked well, although I found it a bit too cold. No breakfast service was a downside, but there were plenty of places to eat nearby.

My stay at Fernloft was a mixed experience. The location in Chinatown was unbeatable with plenty of cheap street food around until late at night. However, the hostel itself felt a bit average, and I encountered some inconveniences such as a lack of windows in my room and limited bathroom facilities.

Rooms
6.0
I stayed in a girls dorm room with no windows, which felt a bit stifling. The air conditioning worked well, but I missed natural light.
Service
5.0
The host, Aini, had a bit of a grumpy demeanor, but it gave a homely feel. Still, communication could be tricky if arriving late since access wasn't always straightforward.
Location
9.0
Being right behind the Buddha Tooth Temple and close to Chinatown station made navigating the area easy. It was packed with food options, a major plus for me.
Dining
7.0
Breakfast was simple, just toast, butter, jam, and Nutella. Still, I appreciated the availability of delicious hawker stalls right across the street.
Facilities
5.0
The hostel offered essential amenities like laundry and tours. However, the shared bathroom situation left something to be desired.

My stay at Fernloft - Singapore, Chinatown was an interesting experience. The location was perfect for exploring the city. While the breakfast included coffee, tea, and toast, I found the number of toilets and showers inadequate for a fully packed hostel. Overall, it was clean and well-managed, just needed a few more facilities.

Rooms
6.0
The room had no windows, which gave a unique experience in the bustling city. It was clean but felt a bit cramped.
Service
6.0
The host was friendly and outgoing. However, I noticed she was often away, so assistance wasn't always readily available.

The hostel's location was fantastic, close to cheap street food and major attractions. I couldn't have asked for a better spot in Chinatown.
Dining

Breakfast was basic with just coffee, tea, and toast. But the area was filled with delicious and affordable food options.

WiFi worked well, although there were only two showers and one toilet. This could be an issue during peak times.

I had a pleasant stay at Fernloft - Singapore in Chinatown. The cleanliness and comfort of the beds stood out, and the location was perfect, being close to metro stations. However, I did feel a bit overwhelmed by the rules and found the bathrooms could be used more efficiently. Overall, I'd recommend this hostel for its great atmosphere and service.

Rooms

I stayed in a 4 bed girls room and then in a 12 bed dorm. Both were clean and comfortable, although the dorm had limited air conditioning hours.
Service

Auntie Aimi was incredibly helpful, offering local tips and making sure everyone was taken care of, which added a homely touch.

The location is fantastic. I enjoyed easy access to two metro stations and was lucky to experience the nearby Chinese New Year festivities.
Dining

A simple breakfast of toast and beverages was available, which was convenient but quite basic.

The facilities included a small common area with a computer and free wifi, but the bathrooms could be better organized for privacy.
